It is an excellent book to prepare in case of the event of our untimely death. It provides information that the reader will supply to the adoptive family to help ease the transition. It is also would provide very useful information for anyone who would pet sit our furry companions. I have transferred the information into a journal and in it I include the dog's veterinary number and Emergency veterinary clinic information. With the list of allergies, medication, sensitivities, medical issues and other pertinent information, it would make dealing with an emergency much easier and provide info that could save a dog's life. I am also including in the journal other information such as resting heart rate, capillary refill time, body temperature tracking and a journal of things worth remember such as how ill the dog became after inoculations. As a standalone, it is a fabulous book that should accompany any dog being either pet-sat or adopted. It is also a valuable addition to a pet journal for anyone who wants to track their pet's health.Would definitely recommend buying, reading and completing the information!

"If I Should Die Before My Dog " Joe Connolly Cathy Connolly 9781475124514 Books Reviews
This has some really good info but a hard cover would be easier to deal with as it is nothing more than suggested lists go things to do when handing your dog to someone after you have gone
This book makes you think about your dog in a way that feels slightly uncomfortable as you are planning for the time when you will be gone. However, it is also great for dog-sitters!
Excellent - any pet owner should have one for each of their pets or make room in it to add additional pets. Wish there was one for multiple pet owners!!!
This is a well-written, thoughtful book which helps dog owners understand the importance of documenting info about their pets and arranging for their care if the owner is no longer able to do so. Great checklists for describing your pet's personality, behavior, sleeping habit (crate? own bed? Sleeps with you?), food & medication needs, pet health insurance, etc. all cleverly told from the dog's perspective.
"If I Should Die Before My Dog -- " gets a five paws rating from me and my dog! Tidbit agrees that this is the perfect present for every dog owner to gift to their furry friend. BowWows to authors Joe and Cathy Connolly.
It is heartbraking to suffer the loss of a pet but to think of the pain and suffering our dog might go through without us is even more grievous. These dog-loving authors have given us the tool to prepare a future for our canine companions in the event we can not be with them.
You can't put a price on preparedness. If a member of your family is a dog, then get yourself a copy of this book and prepare a future for your precious pal. And while you are at it -- get a few extra copies for the other dog lovers in your life!
This is so useful. I have begun filling it out for our most vulnerable dog, should anything happen to us. He would be the most traumatized and most in need for continuity. I also plan to get copies for our other two dogs. It is rather painful to go through it, not so much about facing my own mortality as much as thinking about what would happen if our little lovies were left behind on their own. I highly recommend it. Our babies deserve our thoughtfulness and protection.
Joe and Cathy Connolly's book, If I Should Die Before My Dog--, is a comprehensive care plan for dog owners who are approaching the end of their life or otherwise will be unable to care for their beloved pet in the near future. The book provides fill in the blank forms concerning almost everything you could think of affecting a dog's well being from the types of food and medicines he needs to his idiosyncrasies to small pleasures he enjoys.
As a volunteer for various animal rescues and humane organizations over the years, I have seen far too many dogs and cats sent to shelters with absolutely no information other than their name and sometimes age, after an owner's death or inability, for whatever reason, to care for their pet. This book will certainly enable interim caregivers to provide a higher quality of life for a pet who is often depressed and grieving and create a higher chance of placing the pet in a suitable permanent home.
The book is well-written, easy to read, and well organized with beautiful illustrations by Rod Lawrence. It is a quick read, but puts our focus where it should be for creatures that give us so much love. I estimate owners could spend several hours completing the care plan for each pet. I know I will. This book could also be used for any species of pet. If you love your dog and want to ensure the continuance of a good quality life in the event of your death or untimely demise, please buy this book. This book will also make a great gift for all your friends with pets.
